Home & Hospital Service

Do you need to make changes to your home following an illness?

A FREE Home & Hospital Handyperson Service, available to people who live in Glasgow aged 65 and over to prepare the home for return from hospital, irrespective of whether you own or rent your home. Payment is only required for the materials provided by the Handyperson.

  • Anyone can refer someone due for discharge from hospital to the service.
  • The service also offers assistance to people at home to prevent admissions to hospital. Referrals for clients at home can only be taken directly from Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) or Housing Options for Older People (HOOP) staff.

It is important that when you return home, the environment that you are returning to is safe and secure. Glasgow Care & Repair Home & Hospital Service can provide the following:

  • Install a key safe to allow easy access for family and carers
  • Install a wireless doorbell
  • Fit a bannister, hand or grab rails
  • Prepare the home for medical equipment being delivered
  • Secure cables and tack down loose carpets to prevent tripping

Our Handyperson staff have been carefully selected and undergo Disclosure Scotland security checks.

Appointments can be made to ensure the Handyperson arrives on the day agreed with you and you can use a password system for some additional reassurance.
