ASHP Heating System

Helpful Guide

We've put together a handy FAQ guide to help residents understand how their heating and hot water systems work.

The guide covers thermostat settings, radiator controls, hot water, common issues and simple troubleshooting tips to help you keep your home comfortable and your heating running efficiently.

Please take a few moments to read through the attached document.

How does the thermostat work?

This unit constantly monitors the room temperature and turns the flats heating on or off depending on the comfort level you have set.

What is the upper temperature display?

This is the temperature you wish the room to be. It is controlled by using the up or down arrows to the right.

19oC - 21oC is generally considered to be a comfortable temperature for these flats.

What is the lower temperature display?

This number is the actual temperature in the room.

What is the tap symbol for?

If you hold the tap button for 3 seconds it will turn the hot water on for one cycle. If you hold again it will turn the cycle back off.

Your system has been set up to make hot water automatically so there is no need to press this button.

What is the suitcase symbol for?

This button can be pressed if you are going on holiday, you can set the amount of time you are away and the system will remain off.

If this is accidentally turned on then press and hold for 3 seconds to exit the holiday mode.

Why is the heating off?

Your heating will automatically turn off once the set room temperature is reached. It will allow the flat to cool down by 2oC before restarting. Typically the upper and lower displays will be the same.

Why is the display blank?

Replace batteries – remove unit from wall by sliding up.

Remove the rear battery cover and replace with 2 good quality AA batteries.

If this does not solve the issue please call for an engineer.

What does the battery symbol with a line mean?

Replace batteries – as above

Triangle symbol 3

Replace batteries – as above.

Triangle symbol 1

Unit fault – reset by pressing YES on the main controller in the tank cupboard to restart.

If this does not solve the issue please call for an engineer.

Triangle symbol E

Internal fault – reset by pressing YES on the main controller in the tank cupboard to restart.

If this does not solve the issue please call for an engineer.

Sometimes the radiators are not very warm?

The system will alter the radiator temperature to provide the correct amount of heating to keep the room at your desired temperature.

If however a radiator is only hot at the bottom and always cool at the top then it is likely that it will require an engineer to release the trapped air.

What do the numbers mean on the radiator control valve?

These are the room temperature settings which you can select to keep each room within your home at the correct temperature.

We suggest:

Living room – set to 5 Kitchen – set to 3

Hallway – set to 3 Bathroom – set to 3

Bedrooms – set to 2

As the rooms reach these set temperatures they will turn off.

It is important that you use all of the radiators to heat the property as it may system will run for longer periods if you try to only use 1 radiator which is less efficient and could cost you more.

How does the hot water work?

The system creates and stores enough hot water normally for 2 baths. When you use hot water the system will make more automatically.

The switch labelled immersion in the tank cupboard should be kept on.

What is the control unit in the cupboard for?

This is the master unit, normally you should not need to touch this.

This unit can change the settings or turn different elements on or off. It is also records energy usage.

I have water leaking from the balcony unit

Water should not leak from the unit although it should be safe to use – please arrange for a engineer to check it.

Why does the room never seem to reach the correct temperature?

§ Is the upper display setting very high? Reduce this to no more than 24 oC.

§ Is there a heat source near or below the thermostat? This can affect its performance.

§ Are you using a lot of hot water? This can hold off the heating for up to 45minutes (For example if you have a bath)

§ Are the windows open?

If you cannot resolve the issue please call for an engineer.
