Community Activities & Events

Community Initiatives

Here at Southside we believe that supporting strong and vibrant communities are an essential part of our success as a role as a housing association. Our Community Initiatives Team manage and deliver a series of programmes, initiatives and events across our local community, these include:

  • Southside Connections Programme
  • Halfway Park Project
  • Community Bases and Gardens
  • Employability projects
  • Volunteering Opportunities

Southside Connections Programme

The Southside Connections programme includes a wide range of FREE activities and events.  Such as gardening, cooking, easy exercise, yoga, storytelling, arts and crafts, digital learning and Bookbug sessions.  We have a total of 8 community bases and gardens where the programme is delivered from.

The aim our Southside Connection Programme is to:

  • Connect people positively through participation in a range of activities/opportunities
  • Reduce isolation & loneliness
  • Improve participants’ health & well being
  • Develop participants’ skills & increase their opportunities for learning
  • Encourage participants to engage in their local communities and utilise local services to facilitate social and economic growth
  • Create volunteering opportunities.

The programme is parted funded by Scottish Government’s People and Communities Fund.

We have seven community bases and one community garden across our housing stock.  Each one has its own unique feel and mixture of events and activities delivered by Southside Housing Association, local residents and community groups.   All of our community bases have free Wifi.

Berryknowes Community Flat

Opened in February 2019 this fresh and vibrant ground floor community flat replaces a smaller community that was located on the 8th Floor.

Activities include: Knitting Group, Coffee Afternoon, Breakfast Club, Digital Drop-ins, Reminiscent sessions, Men Group, Smiley Saturday, Quiz night, Dominoes night and Movies afternoons.


Queensland Community Lounge

Ground Floor, 15 Queensland Gardens, Cardonald, G52 2PE

With over 30 years of tradition this community lounge has a wide selection of activities delivered by the local residents.

Activities include: Lunch Club, IT for seniors, Arts and Crafts Coffee Afternoon, Easy Exercise, Bingo, Digital drop-in.


Hartlaw and Chirnside Community Flat & community Garden

Flat 17, 80 Hartlaw / Chirnside Crescent, Cardonald, G52 2JP

A bright and fresh looking community flat, complemented by a small community garden and growing space.  Looking forward we have series of new activities coming soon so watch this space.

Current activities include: Gardening & Digital drop-ins.


Moss Heights Community Flat

0/1, 40 Moss Height Avenue, Cardonald, G52 2TX

Managed by Govan Community Project, this vibrant ground floor flat has a warm welcome for all.

Activities include: English Speaking of Other Languages, Homework Club, Women’s group, Men’s group, Youth group.


Herriet Court Resident Lounge

Herriet Court, 37 Herriet Street, Pollokshields, G41 2JY

Located with our Independent Living Community property this resident lounge provides the perfect venue for a series of events and activities.

Activities include: Digital Drop-ins, Easy Exercise, arts and crafts and breakfast club.


Nithsdale and Newark Residents Lounge

Resident Lounge, 32 Newark Drive, Pollokshields, G41 4PZ

Located with our Independent Living Community property this resident lounge along with the gardens are the venue for a series of events and activities.

Activities include: Digital Drop-ins, Reminiscent sessions, Easy Exercise, movie afternoons and gardening.


423 Shields Road

The community base is well used by a local community groups for one off events and community activities and is also the home to Glendale Women’s Café on a Tuesday during term time.  For information on hiring this space please contact us.

Activities include: Glendale Women Café, digital drop-ins and various one off events.


Midlock Street Community Garden

Our wonderful community garden is located between Midlock Street and Ibrox Street in Govan.  The Garden provided the ideal opportunity for people to enjoy a bit of gardening or simply enjoying the outdoor space.

Activities include:  Gardening, Cooking and Tai Chi.
